Interview with Karen Dales

Today we have award winning Author Karen Dales. Karen the writer of 'The Chosen Chronicles' is also a 'Freelance Editor'. Thank you for taking time to answer my questions and welcome to the page.
Jane

K.D Thanks for having me on your site!

Q:- Can you tell us the five most important facts about 'The Chosen Chronicles?'

K.D 1) The Chosen Chronicles redefines vampires, so do not expect the same-old-same-old when reading it.

2) It's been compared with Bram Stoker and Anne Rice for its originality.

3) The Chosen Chronicles is well known to ruin readers' ablity to read other books for up to a week after finishing the novels.

4) I'm writing the next in the series - Thanatos - which will answer many questions and redefine the Chosen in a way that speaks to anthropological fact mixed with mytholoogy.

5) There are futher books planned in the series after Thanatos.

Quick Fire:-
Do you smoke? Nope
Ice cream or Chocolate cake? Ice cream!
Can you roll your tongue? Yep, and turn it upside down!
Left or Right handed? Mainly Right handed, but I am ambi.
E Reader or Paperback? Both!

Q:- If I gave you the plot for my perfect read would you write it for me?

K.D Nope. Because I would write something even better for you.:)

Q:- Do you write full time or do you have a day job?

K.D I work full time as a freelance editor and writer. This allows me a lot of time to do what I love!

Q:- When you began writing 'The Chosen Chronicles' did you have the ending in mind or did the series evolve as you wrote?

K.D The series has evolved on its own, as I believe most series do. I had a vague outline to go with, but most of it got thrown into the circular filing drawer to make way for what has come out. With Thanatos, because there is SOOO much historical and anthropological information I had to study, it's a matter of putting it into the context of the novel that's been interesting to say the least.

Q:- Angel of Death (book one of The Chosen Chronicles) was the winner of the Siren books Award for best horror and the Siren books Award for best overall in 2010. What are the Sirens book Awards?

K.D They are reader/fan driven awards where fans vote on their favourite book that was reviewed by Siren Books. I was lucky to win! I have the BEST fans!

Q:- Do you plan on visiting the UK to do any book signings? If you do will you please include Manchester on your itinerary?

K.D Oh, I'd so LOVE to return to the UK again. I don't know when that will be. If I do, I will definitely go to Manchester as it's not that far from where friends of mine are living. Last time I was in the UK I didn't get a chance to go north as we did a lot of travel of the south and Wales.
Jane:- I'll see you there!!

Q:- My cats are named Pippa and Casey, what are your cats called?

K.D Love your cats' names! Mine are Morton and Turtle.

Q:- As you are also a freelance editor do you edit your own work or have someone else do it for you?

K.D My publisher has had other editors do my books, but I'm always going through them (when I get a chance). It's hard to have perspective when it comes to content editing on your own novel, easier when it comes to copy editing.

My Review
Q:- You have run the 'Toronto Pagan Pub Moot' for 16 years. What exactly is a 'Pagan Pub Moot?

K.D A Moot is a meeting of folks within a particular community to discuss the goings-on within that community. Therefore a Pagan Pub Moot is a meeting of people who follow a Pagan religious/spiritual path, and they meet at a local pub. There are tonnes of Pagan Pub Moots in the UK. In fact, that's where I borrowed the idea from.:)

Q:- During an interview have you ever been asked a question you refuse to answer.if so what was the question?

K.D If I have, I don't remember the question.

Q:- I know you are working on the next book in this series right now, what plans do you have once this series is finished or have you not thought that far ahead?

K.D I have an historical romance set in Edo period Japan that I would like to finish.:) But even after Thanatos, I have at least two more to write within The Chosen Chronicles!

Order of The Chosen Chronicles:
Changeling: Prelude to The Chosen Chronicles
Angel of Death: Book One of The Chosen Chronicles
Shadow of Death: Book Two of The Chosen Chronicles
(Soon To Be Released - Thanatos: Book Three of The Chosen Chronicles)

"The Chosen Chronicles" available on eBook and Trade Paperback.
